Data Sustainability and Update Strategy
Ensuring long-term access, sustainability, and reproducibility of the data
Data Sustainability Strategy
InsectBase is committed to long-term data sustainability. Below are the key measures we have put in place to ensure data availability, reproducibility, and continuous updates:
- Annual Updates: We conduct comprehensive data updates every September to ensure that all data is up-to-date and accurate.
- External Repository Synchronization: We will annually synchronize data with external databases (such as NCBI, NGDC, PDB, and FigBase) and also upload our self-hosted data to these repositories to ensure long-term accessibility and data consistency across platforms.
- Version Control: A robust version control system is in place, ensuring that all updates are tracked, and relevant data is backed up locally.
- Funding and Institutional Support: We have established reliable funding mechanisms to ensure long-term maintenance and continuous access to InsectBase data.
- Contingency Plans: We have emergency protocols in place to ensure continuity of services during technical issues or funding gaps.
Data Update Schedule
To ensure the data is always current, we follow a regular update protocol:
- Annual Updates: Every September, we perform comprehensive updates and synchronize the data with external repositories.
- Version Control: All data changes are tracked through a version control system, and backups are maintained locally for transparency.
Funding and Institutional Support
InsectBase is supported by institutional funding and external grants, which ensure the platform’s sustainability and data maintenance:
Sustainability Commitments
- Institutional Funding: Long-term financial support from academic institutions ensures that InsectBase can continue to operate and maintain the data.
- External Funding: External funding agencies help ensure that data updates and synchronization with public repositories are sustained.
Contingency and Continuity Plan
To ensure uninterrupted access to data, we have implemented the following contingency plans:
- Backup Systems: In the event of technical issues, backup systems are in place to maintain accessibility.
- Alternate Funding: We have contingency funding measures to continue data maintenance during unexpected funding gaps.
- Maintenance Protocols: Regular maintenance protocols ensure that InsectBase remains functional even during upgrades or repairs.
